Wimbledon officials are cracking down on couples who plan to use the London venue’s quiet room as a not-so-secret rendezvous spot.
Tournament bosses warned spectators Monday that the secluded “sanctuary” space near Court 12 will be kept under a watchful eye for the 2023 tournament — one year after numerous couples were caught using it as a spot for a perverse game of doubles.
“It’s a really important space. So, we will be retaining it and we’ll be making sure that people are using it the right way,” Sally Bolton, chief executive of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, told The Telegraph.
“If people need space to go to pray, it’s the quiet space for that. There is an opportunity to breastfeed in there. But, we are looking for it to be used in the right way.”
It is not clear whether the All England Lawn Tennis Club has settled on punishments for debauchees caught defiling the space.
The quiet room, located near Court 12, is intended for prayer, meditation, breastfeeding and other private space.
Last season, numerous couples were spotted with “big grins” sneaking out of the quiet room, which is outfitted with two armchairs, a foldaway table and phone-charging facilities.
Some were even caught in the act — signs on the doors can be adjusted to read “engaged,” but there are no locks.
Spectators reported hearing intimate noises distinct from the oohs and aahs of the tennis-watching crowd emitting from the room last year.
Numerous couples were spotted walking out of the quiet room last year with “big grins” and looking disheveled.
An All England Club spokesman told The Post last year that the room can be used for a variety of reasons including to support those with additional needs and to support any religious requirements or quiet reflection.”
Wimbledon’s official access guide for 2023 says: “Located in the Southern Village, this sanctuary offers guests a peaceful space to pray, meditate or just be present in the moment.”
The tennis tournament sexcapades long pre-date the quiet room trysts, however.
Officials have resorted in recent years to erecting signs around Wimbledon Park, where hundreds of fans camping each night for the opportunity to be first in line for tickets are known to pass the time with drugs, booze and sex parties.
